Rhodes is the largest of the Dodecanese islands of Greece and is also the island group's historical capital. Administratively the island forms a separate municipality within the Rhodes regional unit, which is part of the South Aegean administrative region.
In 1309 the island was sold to the battalion of the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem. During the stay of the Knights in Rhodes, the fortifications were expanded,were modernized and constantly strengthened. A hospital, a palace,several churches were some of the many public buildings erected at that time. These buildings are notable examples Gothic and Renaissance architecture. Today, it is a vibrant part of the modern city where commercial, tourist and entertainment In 1988, the old town of Rhodes was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
My stay on the island was 25 days and with the valuable help of Yanni Efthymiou I explored the uniqueness of this place. Through this route I tried to capture the architecture, the natural beauty, the human moments and everything that makes you want to you are in such a special place. Rhodes is a magical island with history and natural beauty. The human hospitality, the beaches and the landscapes will be unforgettable for me! Rhodes ... A piece of life!
