Αμερικάνικες Εκλογές – US Elections - Του Βαγγέλη Παυλίδη

Είμαστε περίεργος λαός οι Έλληνες. Πιστεύουμε πως είμαστε οι καλύτεροι απ’ όλους, οι πιο όμορφοι, οι πιο έξυπνοι και πιο γενναίοι και πως όταν εμείς φραπεδιάζαμε στην σκιά της Ακρόπολης “οι άλλοι” τρώγαν βελανίδια πάνω στα δέντρα. Πιστεύουμε πως όλα τα ανακαλύψαμε εμείς, ακόμα και τον καφέ.

Αυτά σε σχέση με τους άλλους γιατί μεταξύ μας – χωρίς να το μολογούμε παρα έξω- είμαστε οι χειρότεροι, σε σημείο που να αποκαλούμε ο ένας τον άλλο μαλάκα. Μαζί με όλα τ’ άλλα πιστεύουμε πως έχουμε την χειρότερη κυβέρνηση και την χειρότερη αντιπολίτευση στον κόσμο, πως όλοι οι πολιτικοί μας είναι ψεύτες και κλέφτες και απατεώνες.

Αμ’ δε! Όσοι παρακολουθούμε την προεκλογική μάχη στις ΗΠΑ ξέρουμε πως υπάρχουν και χειρότερα. Ας ηρεμήσουμε λοιπόν, ας μην κορδωνόμαστε κι ας μην κλαιγόμαστε. Ούτε οι καλύτεροι μα ούτε και οι χειρότεροι είμαστε στον κόσμο.

Those of you who have watched “My big fat Greek wedding” will have an idea of what a strange people we Greeks are. We believe that we are the handsomest, the cleverest, the bravest and we believe that we invented everything worth inventing. But that’s all in relation to “others”. Between us -something not to be admitted to those “others”- we think we are the worst. Among other things we believe we have the worst government and worst opposition in the world and that all of our politicians are traitors and thieves and should be hanged.

Still, those of us who are following the American Presidential campaign have realized that we are not really the worst. So, let us cool down and relax a bit. Let us not boast and let us not complain and moan either. We are neither the best nor the worst in the world.
