1522. Η πολιορκία της Ρόδου απο τον Σουλεϊμάν είναι στο έκτο μήνα. Η κατάσταση στην πόλη όλο και χειροτερεύει καθώς μέρα με την μέρα τρόφιμα και πολεμοφόδια λιγοστεύουν. Ο Σουλτάνος βιάζεται να τελειώνει καθώς ο χειμώνας του δημιουργεί μεγάλα λιγιστικά προβλήματα.
Στις 28 και 29 του Νοέμβρηδυο φοβερές επιθέσεις στους τομείς Ισπανίας και Ιταλίας παραλίγο να φέρουν την πόλη στα χέρια των εχθρών. Οι Τούρκοι μπαίνουν απο το ρήγμα στον τομέα της Ισπανίας και απωθούνται με μεγάλη δυσκολία, αφού θα προσβληθούν αο τα κανόνια της Πυλης Κοσκινού και με την βοήθεια καταρρακτώδους βροχής που κάνει αδύνατη την προέλασή τους.
3000 Τούρκοι χάνουν την ζωή τους. Σαν καλοί Χριστιανοί, ο λαός της πόλης αποδίδουν την “νίκη” στον Άγιο Ανδρέα, που γιόρταζε την ημέρα εκείνη.
Οι Τούρκοι που δεν το βάζουν κάτω χρησιμοποιούν κάθε μέσο και τέχνασμα -υπονόμους, φουρνέλα, κνόνια, εφόδους, ακόμα και ψυχολογικό πόλεμο: μηνύματα πέφτουν με βέλη μα και σπιούνοι που τρυπώνουν στην πόλη απο τα χαλάσματα στοχεύουν στο ηθικό των Ροδιτών, καλώντας τους να παραδοθούν γιατί δεν θα γλιτώσει κανείς.
Ο αγώνας όμως συνεχίζεται απελπισμένος….
ΣΗΜΕΙΩΣΗ. Δεν ξέρω αν τό’χει ο Άγιος Αντρέας, μεγάλη η χάρη του, μα εδώ έβρεξε τόσο που παραλίγο νε φορέσω την πανοπλία μου και να βγώ να κινηγάω Τούρκους.

But the struggle continues desperately.
